They are commonly found in north South American regions, and most noticeable in the Amazon Rainforest! Despite their namesake and size, they rarely feed on birds, and prefer to live in marshy/swampy areas where they can predate on other arthropods and amphibians.

      Another impressive fact about this species, is that they are the only tarantula species to be able to produce an audible "hiss" when threatened, by rubbing their legs together that have specialized hairs.
