Cherry Ames Set of 3 Vintage Children's Novels including #1 Student Nurse, #5 Flight Nurse, and #9 Cruise Nurse

This set of three Cherry Ames books includes the first in the series Student Nurse (1943) as well as #5 Flight Nurse (1945) and #9 Cruise Nurse (1948), all written by Helen Wells (author of the Vicki Barr series). The series began during World War II as a way to encourage girls to consider nursing as a career in order to help the war effort. 

These are all early editions of the books all published in the 1940s based on the list of series' titles promoted in the books. And we believe Cruise Nurse may well be a first edition as the listing of series titles in the book ends with Cruise Nurse.

Cherry Ames is the central character in a series of 27 mystery novels with hospital settings published by Grosset & Dunlap between 1943 and 1968. Helen Wells (1910-1986) wrote volumes #1-7 and 17-27, and Julie Campbell Tatham (1908-1999), the creator of Trixie Belden, wrote volumes #8-16. Wells also created the Vicki Barr series. During World War II, the series encouraged girls to become nurses as a way to aid the war effort. Cherry Ames original editions are prized by collectors and fans. The series generated a few spin-off items, including a Parker Brothers board game; some titles have been reprinted.

• Slight wear on the cover corners and edges as expected with age
• Some creasing and tears on the dust jackets (see our photos)
• Student Nurse is inscribed on the inside flap of the dust jacket
• Pages are in excellent condition, no marks or tears that we can see
